Fr. Sylwester Jaśkiewicz, The sacrificial nature of the Eucharist based on the encyclical Ecclesia de Eucharistia of pope John Paul II, "Zeszyty Formacji Katechetów" 2020, r. 20, nr 1(77), p. 29-38.

The purpose of this article is to show the sacrificial character of the Eucharist based on the encyclical of Pope John Paul II Ecclesia de Eucharistia. At the beginning of the new century and millennium, this document focuses on the most precious treasure of the Church which has been entrusted to it, and this is the one and ultimate redeeming sacrifice of Christ, perpetuated just so by the Eucharist. Each Eucharist is not only a recollection of this event, or some separate sacrifice, but perpetuates the sacramental sacrifice of the Cross, and in no way does it increase it, nothing is added to it, nor is it multiplied. A full understanding of the sacrificial nature of the Eucharist also signifies that in which this sacrifice finds its fulfilment, namely the mystery of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. As the Eucharist ought to be relived in its integrity, therefore too, apart from the sacrifice, its essential dimensions are a presence and a feast. The sacrificial nature of the Eucharist demands a sacrificial attitude of the faithful.
